I first heard about the Avenir about a month after moving to Colorado in early 2019. I attended a public lecture given by Dr. Knowles about working with textile collections in the class room and creating a more global syllabus. I met Terri, a volunteer at the museum and she had such wonderful things to say about her experiences here. I came back about two weeks later with a Collections Management Group and continued to be impressed. I left feeling like I needed to be there. I started volunteering in June 2019 and there is no where else I’d rather be. The staff, volunteers and students are the most amazing group of people I have ever had the privilege to work with. Everyone is so dedicated to the collection and the museum and creating a place that truly fosters a sense of community. I’ve been a volunteer for over a year now and I hope there are many more years to come!
