While I was completing the oral histories, I remember Doreen Beard mentioning the idea of doing an inside-out exhibit theme where garments are presented on mannequins inside-out. I thought that would lead to interesting and unusual labels because you’d be engaging with new topics surrounding the history of constructing garments. I’ve also always been very interested in how the military and war affect fashion (rations, fabric shortages and alternative uses for fabrics, altered silhouettes). I think it would be fascinating to see what the Avenir has in the collection that could tell this story.
